Why do I need insurance?

If 99 other men were born on the same day as you were, then by the time you are 65:

49 would still be healthy
10 will have contracted cancer
3 will have had a stroke
13 will be dead
9 will have had a heart attack
16 will have been off work with a variety of other serious diseases or injuries

So more than HALF will either be dead or have taken extended time off work for medical reasons

You insure your house so in the case of a fire the cost of rebuilding is transferred to another party because you would most likely be unable to afford the rebuild. However the chances of your house burning down is 5% so the risk of you contracting cancer or having a heart attack is much higher so should you insure? Your greatest asset is in fact your ability to earn an income.
